Donald Trump has risen more than 10 percentage points in the last month and Ben Carson is falling, according to a Fox News poll of likely Republican voters out Friday.

Trump had 39 percent, up from 28 percent in November. He is followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 18 percent, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio with 11 percent and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson at 9 percent. All other candidates are at 3 percent or less.

Trump’s rise comes after his controversial proposal to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., and follows the Republican debate Tuesday.

Cruz’s second place is an increase of 4 points since November. Rubio is down 4 points.

But it’s Carson who is suffering most: Last month, he had 18 percent of Republican primary voters. His high in the Fox News poll was 23 percent earlier this fall.

Trump is also winning with evangelical Christians, 39 percent of whom said they’d vote for him. Cruz has 26 percent and Carson has 12 percent. Trump’s increase (up 14 points) and Cruz’s rise (up 8 points) is partly due to Carson’s downfall (down 12 points).

Trump also leads with GOP primary voters without a college degree (45 percent), and on handling the economy and Islamic State. Some 52 percent think he’s the best choice to lead on the economy and 49 percent see him as the best candidate on handling the threat of ISIL.

The telephone poll of 1,013 registered voters was conducted Dec. 16-17. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The poll of 402 Republican primary voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
